JANUARY ARTS TEACH ALL WILL FOCUS ON THE 1937 FLOOD
The Owensboro Area Museum of Science and History will host a historic program on the flood of 1937 on January 14.
This catastrophic event in January, 71 years ago, had a profound impact on river towns such as Owensboro and Louisville. Find out how bad it got and learn how this event shaped our community.
Rick Bell, Executive Director of the Marine Hospital in Louisville, will present this program, which is the second in the Arts Teach All Luncheon Series. It will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14.
Bell released a book last year on the Flood of 1937. The museum will have local exhibits including photographs of Owensboro during the flood.
Arts Teach All is a collaboration of The Learning Community and local cultural institutions, including the International Bluegrass Museum, Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, Owensboro Area Museum of Science and History, Owensboro Public Art Commission, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, RiverPark Center, Theatre Workshop of Owensboro and Western Kentucky Botanical Garden.
Reservations are required at least five days in advance, and the cost is $15 per person. To make a reservation, contact Tracy Marksberry at The Learning Community at tmarksberry@owensboro.com or 926-4339.
The series was created to give residents a new way to explore the community’s arts organizations. Bring a group and find out what you’ve been missing.
Programs are planned for each month. Upcoming programs will be at the International Bluegrass Music Museum in February and RiverPark Center in March.
